Combining Ability and Molecular Marker Approach Identified Genetic Resources to Improve Agronomic Performance in Coffea arabica Breeding

Plant breeding aims to develop cultivars with good agronomic traits through gene recombination and elite genotype selection. To support Coffea arabica programs assist parent selection, molecular characterization, genetic diversity (GD) analyses, circulating diallel studies were strategically integrated new cultivars. Molecular markers used assess the GD of 76 candidate parents verify crossing potential F 1 hybrids. Based on complementary distance, eight selected for analysis. The 12 hybrids evaluated based 10 morpho-agronomic traits. For each trait, effects general specific combining abilities, as well averages parents, hybrids, predicted estimated. Crosses that maximize gains main C. identified.
